"While the dance has an immeasurable number of variations, the fundamental forms of the dance define whether or not the correct dance is being executed. It is from these fundamental forms that variations in movement and execution are derived. Common rules such as starting everything with two walking steps, ending everything with an Anchor triple, and remaining in slot become merely guidelines once attaining higher levels of excellence. However, it is these fundamental forms, and their abundance during a given dance, that allow the dance to be correctly defined. Too much variation or straying prevents the dance form being correctly identified and leads to a majority of the problems seen in today's dance circuit."
